wandering through the streets of Nanning I was confronted by a row of stalls hawkering dogs for food. Despite of feeling slightly queazy i took some photos. I don't feel anger at the fact that chinese people eat dogs; this is a cultural thing and in my opinion is no different to a western person eating a hamburger. however the conditions in which the animals were kept was more distressing.
just been flicking through some of your images magnus, looks like we've been to some similar places. havent got time to crit as i am heading out to work now but nice work!
Southern China has got one ef the most fascinating food cultures around. The fact that westerners tend to get upset because dogs are being eaten is questionable. I do agree with the maltreatment of the animals but looking at the chinese history the last century and the number of mouths to be fed, i can understand that the question of animal right has no priority. This image describes a meat shop just like anywhere else.....Fido got unlucky.
True but, you need to visit some feedlots to see how beef cattle walk and wallow in their own feces. A vegetarian (I'm not) may find no difference between the two. This is a cultural issue and people may react the same way seeing a cow hung down at a butcher's in India (I witnessed) for example. Much can be said about both sides...... Good shot nevertheless!
Hi Ben, Well... It's very hard to watch this photo (at least for animal lover) but still its a good documentry. I won't refer to the technically side because it's not so important.
