About
At 7000+ft and surrounded by such beauty it IS hard to beathe. This is on the senic path at Sunset Crater National Monument outside Flagstaff, Arizona. Thats one of many cones of red volcanic cinder in the center background.
Hugo - yes, the red is due to iron oxides. It is not of sufficient concentration to mine though. I think the high temperatures as the cinders are blown out of the volcano are responsible for the early oxidation. Eventually, the oxides will be leached out and settle in ocean sediments giving us a futher deposite that rivals the fine Navajo red sandstone of the American southwest.
You've captured something of the sense of the rarefied air, somehow. Perspective doesn't work quite as it normally does, strange effect. Thanks for posting, a very interesting image.
John, perfect colors, lighting, composure, textures, what can I say? Great depth also, the foreground is just enough and close enough to plant this pictures position. It?s great work! I?m really learning a lot by tracking your portfolio. -thanks ~Mike
