absolutely Svend? the challenge for the photographer anywhere, Poland, Vietnam, Zululand? no matter where? is to engage people to trust the camera and himself - that is the nectar from where springs the power and beauty we see in the shots? - nothing metaphysical nor geographical about it!

This is beautiful work?

Rafal...

I enjoy your work very much. I especially like the fact that you create these frmaes and vignetting around your images that isn't originally there. I'm very interested in learning how you go about doing this. Do you have a recipe?

Really nice, very straightforward portrait. Don't know about soul, though: what it has is wrapped up and hugging itself against the cold. Regarding the wealth of excellent Polish photographers, I'm reminded of my university days and a French cinema course I took. One day the professor gave an animated lecture on "slavic film-makers". He waxed eloquent about how Polish and Russian film-makers had a natural affinity with film, how they understood the organic world, texture, sound and light and illuminated their films with this understanding. "Whatever," I thought at the time. What I like most about your pictures, Rafal, and the pictures of other Poles posting on usefilm is your subject matter: almost invariably real people, always in uncontrived, real settings. I get the sense that the camera is there as a perfectly normal, completely accepted part of life. Which is the way it should be. Rgds, Svend

When I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was a photo taken with a Holga camera, because of the vignetting... Anyway, nice picture, good cropping, the square format works well for your motif.

Wow..is this B&W straight out of the camera, or adjusted w/ aid of software? Fantastic tonality, nice composition.

I agree with John's comments. This image goes below the surface and the communication between the subject and the camera lens in very intense. I think the Polish people must be very comfortable with themselves and their place in the landscape. I think it must have something to do with the turbulent Polish history. Excellent work. Regards John
