The remains of the Goslar, collecting rust in Paramaribos muddy harbor since May 10, 1940. When Germany invaded The Netherlands, it was at war with former Dutch colony Suriname as well. The German crew had to sink their ship to keep it out of the hands of Dutch police commissioner Van Beek, hence the shipwrecks nickname Van Beek Island.
