About
Shichigosan is a traditional Japanese event celebrated by 3 and 5 year old boys and 3 and 7 year old girls. The children dress in kimonos and go to a shrine to receive divine blessings for their health and happiness.
This 5 year-old boy is the son of some friends of ours. He seemed more interested in the bag of candy he received than anything else!
And do the kids ever get to dress in their kimonos again? I guess the girls might, but for the boys it's probably a once-in-a-lifetime thing. The Japanese Christian church has a blessing ceremony for children at about this time of year, too.
