Very nice shot. I really enjoy the composition with them at the top of the slope and the background dropping off to the far distance. The DOF is fantastic. The color is wonderful. Well done!

Thank you Fadel. Only thing I did to this was resize to 750x500 and add usm of 75,1,5.
Here is a 100% crop showing how little the noise is at iso800. Hopefully this helps. I havn't added any usm to this one so this is straight out of the camera at 100%. Ive had to resize it to 500 pixels though

Great capture Howie, very sharp and clean, I love the DOF a lot too. Did you do anything to the noise or is this the quality of ISO800 in the 20D??

Sorry about the delay in answering you about the 20D Kel. When I bought my first DSLR (10D) nearly two years ago I was torn between Nikon D100 or 10D. In the end I bought into the Canon system. One thing to remember is your buying into a system and not a camera. At the time, the 10D was the best in it's class according to DP Review. As now, the 20D is also classed as the best in it's class. Here is the link to the review at DP Review.

I have a friend who owns the Nikon D70 and it's also excellent. I think the main advantages of the 20D over the D70 are:
8mp compared to 6mp Lower noise levels at iso800-3200 5fps in Raw Mirror Lockup iso 100 for that film like feel the canon gives.
However the D70 is a lot cheaper than the 20D.
As for lenses thats a whole new ball game and the choice is very wide and varied. Im leaning more towards primes because the quality is amazing from a prime. Zooms have advantages but I'm yet to see a zoom match a prime for sharpness out of the camera.
If you decide to go to 20D let me know and I'll give the best advice on choice of lens in yuor budget.
Hope this helps
Howie

Hi Kel
First thing you want to do is read the review of the Canon 20D at DP review.com here is the link.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos20d/
At the end of the review Phil Askey simply says, its the best in its class :)
Lenses now this is where it becomes complicated and expensive LOL. As with all DSLR's or film cameras. I always ask what peoples main purpose in photography are. I believe Nikon have better wide angle lens and Canon have better telephoto lens. So you have to decide to buy into a system.
Ive never owned a Nikon so can't comment on their setup although a friend has an excellent D70.
If you go 20D there are one of two lens to definately buy for portraits. 50mm MK II F1.8 or 85mm F1.8. I prefer the speed and bokeh of the 85mm but the 50mm is unbeatable for price.
The new 17-85 IS lens has a lot of good reviews but believe me, prime lenses are so much sharper than zoom lenses. This includes Canon L lenses.
So you need to decide what you want to shoot mainly. I dont shoot much wildlife but bought the 135-400 sigma because it gives me the ability to do so.
Also Sigma have some excellent lenses.
If you do decide to buy the 20D give me a shout and I'll help as much as I can with the choice of lenses for you. The biggest plus of the 20D over prosumer cameras is the extremely low noise levels of iso 800-3200. The photo you commented on was iso800. This would compare to iso 160 on my old Olympus E10.
Hope this helps :)
