About Finally with the borrowed scanner I was able to make a nice clean scan of this image... taken at the same time as http://www.usefilm.com/image/308248.html
but this time no PS required.
Taken at Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver with a Cokin P173 filter and a ND grad filter. I think it was a 30 - 45 sec. exposure...
This was the first time I had ever experienced the effect of a long shutter speed and ocean waves together, and I liked the result. This inspired me to try more long exp. shots with water and why I choose it as one of my best photographs.

Beautiful shot, Kim. I have just started with long exposures and movement, especially water. ND filters are key, both graduated and otherwise. The effect you've caught here is just what I'm after. Good work!

Excellent shot Kim, like very much the purplish cast on the mist water created with a delayed shutter. Well done, cheers.

Congrat on the front page exposure Kim. You have seen this one right: http://www.usefilm.com/image/24683.html - pretty much same idea, dont you think? :-) All you need now is 10000 more views for fairness sake.

No matter which way I try to tilt this to straighten it seems crooked... I think it's from using the 19-35 at 19mm... some horizon curve.
Thanks for the comment!

James Hager   {K:6285} 4/28/2005
Fantastic!!! Great colors and a very nice composition. Looks like the horizon is tilted just a tad.

Spectacular, Kim! Again, I love the combination of purple and gold, especially in the reflections off the rocks! The softness of the breaking waves looks almost like a fog crawling over mountains, with cloud-tops stretching off into the distance.
Congratulations on a very well deserved Staff Choice! Sorry I haven't been able to comment recently!

Glorious, mythical... :-) Very good to see this again and it is certainly a good candidate for anybody's best photo in a year. There is a slight horizon tilt, not a big deal but it gave me the idea that it could be cool to apply just a little bit of a geometry transformation to the image to exaggerate the curvature of the horizon - it would go nicely with the myth associations I get from this!

Kim, the long shutter really gives this image a dynamism that might not have been achieved in any other way. The composition rocks!

I've always like your work, but your recent posts have been at a whole new level. You seem to have been touched by the photographic elf. Please send her my way one of these days!

Hope the inspiration continues!

Hi Kim - great image. I like the combo of the misty water effect together w/ the brightly lit sky...usually the long exposure shots have dark/bluish skies, so it it nice to see one w/ a coloful sunset in the background. A beautiful area, and great capture. Good pick for your best of '04,

Chris
