About Technically not good quality, but a rare view of the rear end of red tail hawk. I only had a split second to shoot as he left the road. Just thought I'd share it anyway.

I'm really glad you posted this shot. These things happen to me all the time and I'm always about one second to late. Or its too dark, or I forgot to turn on the camera. Great shot.

Yes it is indeed a rare view...and the title is great...that's just what he is doing. Good catch! Thanks for your comment on "Youth," and I'm glad you liked it so much. Regarding your "missing it"...it's hard to keep up with everything here...I have the same problem...lol. T.

What an amazing capture, Rebecca! I don't know what you mean about not good quality, especially for a spontaneous action shot like this! Quite beautiful - I don't think I have seen a red tail before - we have a number of hawks around here, too, but I've never been able to get anywhere near close enough to get a shot of them (plus my camera can be horribly s-l-o-w at focusing!)
I love how you caught him on the wing's downstroke - really gives him a sleek look!

Rebecca, having been so busy lately I nearly missed this but I'm delighted I didn't. It FANTASTIC!!! You pulled off a magnificent result with it. Contending with shutter lag on most digi cams can be soooo frustrating but you couldn't have done better with a DSLR. I just love the way you've caught the tail feathers fanned out.
My heartiest compliments.

Not good quality???? This is a sensational capture Rebecca, don't sell yourself short. That red fan tail is magnificent all by itself.

This is a beautiful shot of a magnificent bird - just look at the size of the wingspan. You were very lucky to take such a good action shot of the bird in this position. Congrats.

Rebecca: Thank you for your comment on "Morning Frost". This is a good shot. These guys are hard to capture. I see them all of the time but they never let me get close.

Great capture, Rebecca! An inflight shot from any angle is always hard to catch!

Wonderful Photograph, Great Colors and Clarity. Very well presented. Most of my bird shots are where the bird WAS.. ;~]

Thanks for sharing, and thanks for the wonder comments on my Photos... And a Merry Christmas to you and yours...
Peter Daniel

PS.. The secret for dark background is to get up before dawn or stay up late at night and use a flash with exposure bias set to -1 or -2...

Yes, the spread tail of a red-tail is something not easily seen, but you managed to emphasize it in this quick shot. Well done!

There is something to be said for being at the right place at the right time. But, having the camera ready and shooting in a split second and getting a no less than a great photo like this one, is the work of a true photographer. Glad you're sharing it! It's really a wonderful shot.

What a great timing, Rebecca!
I like the composition a lot. The angle is unusual but I think that it's just what makes this capture fascinating.
Beautiful bird, awsome colours.
Superb shot,
Regards - Emgy

I keep mine on aperture priority most of the time. And I always have it set on single focus, not continuous focus. It drains my batteries too quickly if I leave it on auto. I never use auto on this fuji, because it takes terrible pictures.

Fabulous capture, Rebecca - I disagree I think it is a unique capture. The angle and position of its wings reminds me so much of a plane coming into land :-)

Super photograph !

Best wishes,
Steve

Great shot, in photos like this, the capture is more important than the technical quality.

This is amazing. I thought it would be just impossible to ever get a picture like this. Rebecca, I hope we never get into a gun fight. Your reflexes are way too quick.

Amazing capture, the back feathers are so beautiful, thank you since we probably would never get a chance to see them this close. Alison

I kicked the saturation up a little, Del. It's not quite this red, but I had the camera on chrome mode, which intensifies the colors anyway.

Del Metheny   {K:25617} 12/12/2004
I never realized the tail of the "red tail" was really that red. I guess we are used to seeing the underside from below. I have enjoyed this photo a lot. No need to apologize, the angle makes up for any technical deficiency

I disagree with your narrative, for a live action capture, this one is pretty good, well done.
