My pleasure. I'm no Photoshop wiz myself and don't believe in using it to extremes. Just enough to make minor adjustments -- the same thing you'd find in a film post-production kind of thing. Contrast, color balance and that sort of thing are in my opinion required modifications. :)
Great pic! I definitely have to get out on the street to take some shots like this!

I converted this to Duotone (Not B&W) but maintained the detail in the bench, sidewalk, etc. What do you think?

Marian,
Based on the original, the sidewalk is perfectly exposed! I don't think you made a mistake, it looks like you were trying to bring out some more detail on the man sitting in the B&W version, which caused the sidewalk to be a little overexposed.
In Photoshop, there is a tool called "Curves" that allow you to adjust shadows, midtones and highlights. For this particular photo, that's what I would have done.
I'll play with the original to show you what I mean.

I have tried a lot of different kinds of photography, but so far no street photography. I'm thinking about going down to San Francisco (where I live) to capture some of these exact same types of images! You did a good job here -- The sidewalk seems a little over-exposed, but street photography is supposed to look "rough." This looks like Sepia-tone... Did you try it in black and white as well?
