Howie Mudge WHERE ARE YOU?! Great to see your image on the front page (and a stunning image it is too), but I haven't seen anything new from you in ages. Hope to see you back here soon...

All the best, AJ

Great image Howie and congratulations. Traditional photographic techniquesat their best.

Very stylish shot - I am a little ambivalent about the lights in the upper right. Turning the eight ball so that one could clearly read the "8" could be something to try next time you hit the pool hall.

Howie,

Excellent dof effect. He is about to hit and the balls are going to splatter out - at any moment. Great sense of anticipation in it.

Wonderful.

regards,
ken.

wonderful image, good organization of the balls, all with no numbers except the black 8, i had only one wish, to show the 8 mark better to the camre, one step for perfection , 7

Thanks Amanda for the kind comment. The only trouble with Fuji Neopan iso 400 it doesn't really have true blacks. Its more a portrait film than for what I did. Tri X and Delta have lots more contrast in them and I'll try this again another time with one of those films :)

Hugs

LOVE your shallow DOF here. Gives such depth of mood and atmosphere. Personally would like a touch more contrast to really make the blacks black.. but otherwise love it.

I know the feeling, I nearly put in a bid for a 20D last night on Ebay but it would have meant a trip to Essex to pick up. It went with kit lens for £750. Of course the wife would have thrown me out over Christmas had I done lol

Best wishes,
Steve

Thanks Stephen and sounds great meeting up next year. Weekends are usually easier for me as working during the week and all that.. Its difficult in my area to find photographer who want to go anywhere. Im off up Cader Idris in the morning and the weather report is quite good. I was hoping my slide film would have turned up but the trouble is with Christmas mail. I ordered it from MX2 and it normally takes around 4-5 days. Never mind huh :)

Thanks again

Have a great Christmas :)

Thanks Jim. I've only scanned in black and white negatives at the moment and for this work, the 4870 is amazing. Spot on everytime from what I can see. I'll be trying out some colour negatives later to see how that copes. I don't have any slides yet as Ive only just started in the last 6 months to shoot film. The reason I bought it was becuase of the following review.

http://www.photo-i.co.uk/Reviews/interactive/Epson%204870/page_1.htm

Ive got some velvia and profia on order and it'll be interesting to se how these scan.

Hope this helps

Howie

Super photo Howie, this is another passion of mine - no not just the pub but pool also :-)

Last time I played ironically was at the Pilot Boat pub on the Isle of Anglesey !!

All the very best wishes - maybe get a chance to meet up some time next year. That would be super :-)

Best wishes,
Steve

Great shot!!!!
Love the DOF

How do you like the 4870?
I have the 3170, and sometimes the results are good, and sometimes their not.

Thanks for comments on my work, looking forward to more.

Thank you for the comments and your opinion. My aim as the title says '8 ball pool' and my intention was on making the black ball number 8 as in focus as possible whilst making the rest of the scene out of focus. I do appreciate your comment and view and as with all photography, it's subjective :)

Thanks again

Howie

i think t isnt very good shot... dof is too shallow, the first balls are unsharp, and the person is too blurry... regards.
