About This is our common garter snake. It was one of the last warm days of fall and he was crossing the road. He was over 3 feet long. I took a couple of photos then I layed down in the road and looked at him eye to eye and took this photo. Sure glad no one else came by and ran both of us over. I finally got him to move off the road. Our race of this species of garter snake has the red spots on its side.

I had it on macro and was probably a foot or so away but the snake just stayed right there.
