Important information about the Malika :
Malika or Queen Safeyah was the wife of Ottoman Sultan Murad the Third and mother of Sultan Mohammad Khan the Third. She was a Venetian from the aristocratic Pavo family whose father was the ruler of Karvo. On a ship en route to visit her father with other noble ladies, she was taken prisoner by pirates when she was just fourteen years of age. She was sold to become part of the Ottoman court in Istanbul. Her beauty meant that she immediately became a star. She married the Sultan Murad, bearing him a son, Mohammad Khan, on 26 Shawwal AH 973 (26 May AD 1566). When Sultan Al-Ghazi Mohammad Khan the Third ruled after the death of his father in AH 1003 (AD 1595), she became an even more important political figure in the Ottoman court.
