This is an interesting question. If the digital image would a perfect reflection of word, I agree with yours aproach. But CCD (or CMOC) has its own characteristics and distort colours, it being known that quite individually.
In Ancel Adams Guide there are interesting thoughts about nature of colour photography...

I'd like to suggest my variant. Corrections include decreasing of colour temperature and hue/saturation of red, etc.
