OH MY WORD!!! I'm in love ALL over again!! I know it's been a LONG time since you did this... but if you remember more of how you did it... could you email me at sara@treasuredimagesbysara.com? I am too chicken to do much with dodge and burn. Do you do it all in one layer or create a burned layer and a dodged layer and paint them in with layer masks?

Sara, What a wonderful idea! I removed the grain with NeatImage Pro, added some dodging and burning to give a little more "glow" to the skin and added a blur layer to soften the whole image (except I erased the blur from the eyes and mouth). I also cropped it down to a standard 8x10 format. Let me know what you think... I was trying to get more of a soft feel with warm light for the image. The colors in the attachment are a little "off" due to having to get the .jpg down to a very small size.

Cheryl yes the bw is brushed too, but when it's 500 high rather than 800... it doesn't show as much. See the reply to Louise for my next help question.
I also meant to ask on your other photo about your new lens. How are you liking the fixed? I would be afraid I dont move fast enough to get "those" moments.

Do you have any suggestions for skin tone? I was spacey and took it on 1600iso rather than an auto iso and so it has a lot more noise, maybe a softer less sharp paint daub? I'll attach a copy of the color before I added the paint to the whole thing.
I thought diffuse glow turned it weird colors. Do i do it wrong?

Sara - great idea for a tradition. I love it. I think the photo would be perfect without the brushing though. I love the B&W - did you put the brush to it too? I didn't notice it as well. I think this is such a great idea - I'd do it with my girl but my dress is all boxed up... darn!

Now THAT is a cute idea! I personally don't like the combination of grain and PS painting in the background. I would try just with grain and also try a little gaussian blur to soften it and make it more dreamy that way. You might also play with diffuse glow, that's fun. Oh and her hair and the background need a bit more contrast if possible. Kids are great subjects aren't they?
