About
Ok, let tell ya how this shot came to be. I was out in the woods at a state park near where I live, lookin for things to shoot. When, along came a guy, not this guy, on a bike. Then, up the road I see this guy comming along behind him. So, I thought, maybe I could get some shots of him without lifting the camera to my eye. So, with the camera at my side, I shot, three frames, not knowing how they would turn out, I simple shot from the hip. This is the best of the three, they turn out better then I thought. The other two, he is too far away, so I put this on up, not bad, at least I think, for a picture where I just took a chance and shot from the hip.
Boy this is great for a 'shot from the hip' Jim. I really can't imagine it could be better composed than this, including the slight tilt to the picture. Isn't it funny how some of the best images are unexpected while some of those with high expections are a disappointment?
Why thank you Tamara I tell ya, I really had no idea how this was going to turn out till I got the film back from the lab, no digital for me. It has inspired me to try somemore of this type of shot. So, keep watchin for more Jim Gamble
In fact, sometimes I think this from-the-hip shots really teach us to stop framing so rigidly, making the frame parallel with gravity, or tilting things just so.
This shot has a really nice spontaneous quality to it. Looks like you lost some detail in the trees in back, but the lines are really nice and the placement of the biker in the scene worked out really well!
Jim, my daily walks are partly on a bike trail. I know what you mean about not wanting to be seen by the subject you are filming. Shooting from the hip has produced some very very strange shots. The great thing about digital, no need not to just snap away. Del.
Jim, In this case, shooting from the hip, turns out to be a really great idea. It gives a very interesting angle to the shot - because it's not perfectly level - neither is the trail - neither is life. The tilt gives a nice position to the downward path on which he is biking. Good job! -- Debby
Hi Jim! I think You did a great job here !the angle really gives a good sense of the slope of the hill and how fast He is going! I like it!!! Well done Jim! Take care!....JOHN
