it's not new usage. I've began from this. We bought first digital camera (Coolpix 4500) exactly for this purpose.

I've shot this image by ordinary Coolpix 4500, there was not any difference with shots of Landscapes of Street. By the way, focus was at infitiny, just as for landscapes.
In the case of molecular bonds it's impossibe - and this make a principal difference:)))
