About Soon I'll have to let him go... He will move out to start studying psychology.... After all these years of being my baby/kid/big son, he will stand on his own feet... I wonder whether I am happy or sad.

You are Happy and Sad Sam.... Happy that he is matured to a handsome and smart , wonderful person all is own, and Sad, because now you've got to share him with the world and you won't get to see him every single morning of his life anymore :(

I thought so dear Sam :) and I am so very glad cause of that !!! This is so precious !!!
My soon is 12 years old and we have so much in front of us, but I do believe that he would become a good person one day only if he hears 30% of what we are talking and doing him to become strong and independed individual one day >>> and the love is the key for those efforts !!!

Sam how tender this is...not easy letting go. This is a very wonderful image to reflect on, the last little bit of childhood, a part that hopefully never goes away, wonderful tones, and a wonderful capture of the happiness he's obviously feeling....well done!...and a nice about too...really ties it together...:):)Linda

You are both and neither happy or sad. It's a hard time but remember - they will always come back and you can be proud of the wonderful son you've helped shape into a man. Great photo with "about" - really a wonderful tribute.

There's a lot of energy in this photograph, a lot of youth, and it's very optimistic. You can't help but feel good and also for your son.

Wonderful capture of your handsome son, Sam!

With three daughters with ages 12, 15 and 16 I have to confess I am longing for that day when they can stand on their own with organised future in front of them. Like your son seems to have!

Hallo Sam,
groeten,
Diana.

Great photograph!

AJ, I have no choice but let him go, I wouldn't want it any other way, but that doesn't make it any easier ) ... thx for the colour suggestion... I think you have a point there and I am going to try it one of these days.

AJ Miller AJ Miller   {K:49168} 2/4/2005
Let it go... let him go... The kite is easy, the son more difficult. For me, this image is crying out for some colour isolation: either your son or the kite, depending on which you are going to let go... But in either case, be happy!

Yes John, lots of times we only realize we had after we lost it... Luckily it isn't the case here and we've (and that includes my 17 year old daughter ( http://www.usefilm.com/photographer/65603.html )) had a marvellous time and still have lots og laughs and love to share in the future.

I am very glad to hear how special the time shared with our children is.

Enjoy it.

I have a son that also he studies psychology (5? period). The difficult is accurately to cut the bows that in arrest them. But we create children for the world. Fantastic photo and mesage. Congrats!

Beautiful image Sam... perfectly timed (not so easy with the shutter lag on the S5000 either!)... Perfect exposure and well suited to B/W too! And the commentary - so appropriate!

In letting go you enable freedom and the ability to soar to new heights... to be admired by many more people and to see the world from a higher plane.... And in letting go look what a thing of beauty is created!

Aw...Sam, I see your image has brought out the emotion in many of us parents. Excellent job! Yes, letting go is difficult and then easy, then sad, etc...etc..etc...

I think it all depends on what they are asking of you, when they ask you over for dinner in their new place, it is wonderfull and when they are asking you for survival money again, it is devastating. Such as life.

Fun photo, thanks for sharing.
Regards,
Carla

Paul McCartney, my favourite songwriter put it like this:

Letting Go

Aaah, She Tastes Like Wine
Such A Human Being So Divine
Oh She Feels Like Sun
Mother Nature Look At What You're Done
Oh I Feel Like Letting Go
Oh I Feel Like Letting Go.

Aaah, She Looks Like Snow
I Want To Put Her In A Broadway Show
Ah She'll Dance And Dine
Like A Lucifer She'll Always Shine

Oh I Feel Like Letting Go
Oh I Feel Like Letting Go.

Oh I Feel Like Letting Go.

Ah, She Sings It So
I Want To Put Her On The Radio
One Day And There You Are
Ladies And Gentleman -
A Brand New Star.

Oh I Feel Like Letting Go
Oh I Feel Like Letting Go.
