About Yesterday, by dumb luck, certainly not by any advanced training on my part, my partner & I saved a life. Our patient told us that he had horrible chest pains and that we would not be able to get an IV line on him, and then he became unresponsive. To make a long story short, the patient's heart went into a lethal rhythm, and we shocked him back into a perfusing one. We were, as he stated, unable to get a line on him. We knew which button to press, and his body responded. By the time the helicopter arrived he was talking to us.
Today, I went to Nikki's memorial service, Nikki was a great paramedic; how many more lives might she have saved had her chopper not gone down. This question can not be answered. I will leave for work in a few minutes to work through the night, will we be busy, or will we stay put and never turn a wheel? Another question that can not be answered. Noah & I will be ready for whatever comes along, be it caring for someone sick or injured, taking a drunk to the hospital, or pushing the right button. We are privledged & thankful that we can serve the community. We admit that many times what we do is not glamorous, or special. We know that any advanced training we have may or may not make a difference. We accept that often times these things are out of our hands. We love what we do; we serve. Thank you for allowing us that priveledge. Dottie

Dottie, although I'm very busy at the moment I have to respond to this upload. I, like all the other friends that have commented, consider myself to be among the priveleged knowing that there are dedicated, caring professionals such as you around this world. As a tribute to you, Nikki and all your colleagues may I remind you of this posting from a while back. I salute you.

What poetic and glorious thoughts you have. I will push your right button in saying that without people like you this place would become a meaningless, savage jungle.
Your work reflects a visual poetry commensurate with your wonderous mind. Keep well from the land of OZ.

Dottie, God bless you and your partner for what you do.
You have a strength that goes beyond the physical, its an inner strength that allows you to give of yourself, to help others.
As Kelly said, we are the privledged ones to people as carring as you and your partner serving us.
You are in our prayers.
Thank you for serving us.
Your friend,
Jim Gamble

I think you should never think that what you do is not special. Perhaps not the romatic depiction we see on television. But definatly special. I'm prety sure you will never get rich doing what you do. In a way it's good that it isn't a high paying job. It insures that you come to work every day for the right reasons.

About three years ago my father was in the ER with back pains. The doc noticed something very minute on his EKG that told him my father had had a heart atack. A care flight team showed up to transport him to a Heart hospitol 60 mile away.

I will never forget the proffesionalism displayed by that care flight team. They had probably done this routine a thousand times but every detail was atended to with percision and expertise.

As I said about your freind, Nikki, There is a special place in Heaven for those that do the hard work.

So, if you haven't allready figured it out, I have a huge admiration for you and what you do.

BTW, Nice save! I bet that guy thinks your prety special too...

Hi Dottie,
Great story and a great job you do!
I trust all went well at the memorial service?
These events are so hard to understand and deal with!
Best regards, Chris
