I love this...it's simple, but still very interesting. I also think your final crop works the best.

Hi Tamara,

That's crazy, but i have a STRONG preference now for your new crop. Mine is too much, and your original is a little too equal. your new one is just right, and I like seeing a little bit more under the handle. I like it even more now!

Hi Gaja,

Actually, I almost posted a crop like that, but the reason I didn't is because I wanted to include the "piles" of snow that had built up over the left and right ends of the handle. And I'm thinking that your crop is maybe a little too long... but you didn't have the whole photo to work with and I guess you couldn't exactly make it any narrower because of the handle itself.

But I've heard that about thirds too, so I thought I'd give it a try myself as well, since I had the original to work with. What I did was recrop the photo, this time with slightly more space under the handle, in hopes of balancing out all the space at the top. (I couldn't include any more on the left because that's only as much as was included in the original photo.) But this probably isn't the rule of thirds anymore, now is it?

Anyway, in the end, I think I like the version I originally posted. But hey, it was worth a try, right? And thanks so much for your suggestions and your version! What do you think? Which do you think is best?

Crop Version #3

Gaja Snover   {K:4462} 1/24/2005
Hi Tamara,

I really like this photo; the simple graphic composition. i keep reading that successful photos should have proportions in thirds, so I tried cropping yours from the top so that it would be divided roughly into three horizontal sections. I'm not sure what I think, I might like yours more - what do you think?
