I saw this one some time ago but I keep coming back to it. You've captured so much humanity in one human face. It haunts me.

i must say you succeeded. this is extremely well done. the lighting is not too harsh and not to soft. the hair stands out from the background, the hands nicely framing the face from below.

It feels so very honest.
As a fan of yours for years now, I think I can safely say that while this is subtle, it is among your best.

Melanchonic look, yet so beautiful. A great portrait, Andrew. A great photo like all your works in your portfolio. You are a point of reference and influence in my new works. A warm hug.

A most distinguished portrait, in my opinion one of Mister Caldwell's best. Technically, the subject is given great presence through the clearly delineated textures and volumes of his head and hands. He seems to be touching his face as if it is a mask he is trying to take off--or hold on.His beautiful, poignant eyes dominate the composition. The tiny glint of light on a stray wisp of hair at the top cleverly balances the enormous "weight" of his face and hands. As with so much of Mister Caldwell's work, this echoes work of an earlier era, especially the Life Magazine photographers.
