Thanks Reza. I agree the D70 works well in the cold, but always carry a spare battery in your pocket. All those electronics really use up the power when it is cold.

Great contrasts. Very refreshing colors. I've found that the D70s work wonders in the cold. It looks like it was worth the cold because the moon in the composition is a good idea.

Thanks Tim. No problems yet, but I have only had the camera a week. I have had several sessions in the cold this week (about an hour at -20C)shooting for a website. I keep the camera in its bag, in the trunk while travelling and never warm it under my coat. I think you have a much greater problem with humidity, than we do here in Ontario.

Hey great shot Richard,
Hows the D70 in the cold? i was getting problems with the mirror sticking up i guess from the slight humidity in the body creating a bit of what i don't know. But it did stick quite often, but I still got the shot. It was fine as soon as it warmed up. Trust the Canuks to test it to the fullest of it's limits....LOL

Thanks for the encouragement Em, I have a lot to learn about digital and colour. You have good reason to be excited about your D70, it is a wonderful camera. The instant feedback is especially helpful, as are the histograms on the back to help with exposures. As an artist, you will not abandon film completely though. I still expect that we will see many of your wonderful B+W experiments posted.

...I hear you. Hugo is so dear to me...I love his critiques. They are always well thought out, and he digs deep. It's hard for me to think of what to say so often, and he is a master at nailing down what's going on. I usually don't pay much attention to the Philosophy threads, but just for fun I went in to see. It actually does my heart good to read because sometimes people make comments on mine or others I'm viewing -- the purist thing. What I like is the comments like yours, as well as the ones where people are trying to reason with the purists. It helps me get off my guard. When my "Youth" won an award, someone came in and hammered me, and then mentioned the philosophy thread on ethics.... you can imagine how delighted I was. :)

Hi Maria ....... it IS all about the light isn't it. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the comment Antonia. Sometimes the people in the philosophy forums make me laugh. They try to tell us the "TRUTH" about photography, when all they are really doing is justifying their own position. I really thought photographers would be a little more open to new ideas (given how we are regarded by others in the art world), but I guess that is not the case. I just like to create images and hope that the technology (or really my inability to master the technology) doesn't get in the way of my vision.
Had a quick look at your portfolio and it is very impressive, especially the portraits. I'll comment on some later. Got a real laugh at Hugo's comments on B+W.

...just read your remark in Philosophy on BW..."with all this talk about BW, I'm surprised..." It was perfect timing in my reading of the discussion...almost busted my gut. Thank you for that. Had to come see who you are! Great shot BTW, the moon in the blue sky above the clouds is fantastic. Excellent composition. Thanks again... Antonia

Hi Rebecca ....... I'm pretty excited too, but there is a lot to learn and it is for "work"!!!!
My Nikon F80s loaded with Tri-X or BW400CN will remain my preferred tool. Here is another feeble attempt at colour for you.

Thanks for the comment Fadel. Actually I was recently offered a part-time job shooting images for a company that develops websites, so I used that as an excuse to buy the D70. No chance I will give up B+W, and my F-80s though.
