About
This photograph was taken last August on Interstate 20 near Augusta, Ga. I took a risk and stopped to shoot a few shots and find out what actaully happened. Well, I was told by a grieving friend ( not seen in photo) that Cpl. Wes Mack, a young black man totally dedicated to patrolling the part of I 20 that ran through his county. He had many friends since he was a local guy, and was well respected On the night before this photo was taken Cpl Mack made a routine stop on his motorcycle. ( As you can imagine being on a motorcycle -patroling: What could be more dangerous?) Anyway, after he wrote a warning citation to the stopped motorist, for some reason Cpl Mack pulled back into the traffic without taking a good look. He was hit by an on coming vehicle traveling about 70 miles per hour. The rest is history. Let us not forget the dangers that traffic patrolman face everyday and night.
A powerful image Chuck! It does make you slow down and think! Last summer and the summer prior to that, a patrol officer and a motorcycle officer were killed in this area under similar circumstances. Very sad!
Thanks Kelly: THese crosses are in far too many in the USA. I believe that they do help people to slow down from time to time.

yes i had my bestfriend killed in a car accident too..... it's so traumatic......i think these crosses on the side of the road are a great tribute and reminder, to slow down and remember that person didn't make it past this point and you can !!!!! In Australia here there are five crosses on the side of the road on the North Coast, one for each member of a young family . Mum,Dad, and three little kids had just spent a great family holiday in Queensland and were all killed not far from home!!!!! My heart goes out to the family's of all tragedy's..... god bless you. kel
