About Just a second run on the new photo dyes that I just got... I still don't know. I like the lighter hues but I don't like it if I mess up I can't take off the color like with the photo oils... any opinions from anyone else who might handcolor photos are greatly appreciated. Thanks! Tara

Thank you Kevin... I liked your photos w/ the coloring that you have done. I usually only use water color pencils by derwent as that's what I've used in Graphics. I never have tried the Marshall's. I like the photo oils too... just wanted to experiment with these dye colors. I just tried washing one of these photos too to get the tint even lighter and it works... I may have something new soon. Nice - I tried my hand at handcoloring years ago - it's a real talent to be able to do it as well as you do - I used to use Marshalls color pencils and Agfa matt fiber paper -- I only have a couple that I kept all the others were pretty poor - here are the two I posted a while back -- pretty simple work from me unlike yours ..

Like I said pretty simple but after all these years I still like them...my kids too...K

Hi Mark.. I wish I could get a transfer this clear. This is actually another Canon black and white shot that I had made tinted w/ these new photo dyes I discovered when I saw a TV program on Altered books. I was facinated w/ the specific tint they lended (different than I have been able to get w/ the oils) and decided to try them. Thanks for your comment... : ) Tara

This process you do with the polaroid transfers intrigues me. I don't know if this is one of them, but the results are what counts. Just outstanding. You should do an article for Usefilm describing how it's done, because it's such an attractive process.

I stopped by to take a look at what Tara is doing lately and found this beautiful old truck that is marked 'test'. I say it again, your work is just incredible! If you have not yet, you should present your work to a gallery or for publication. I could see some of your work publishing in a childrens book due to the soft touch you add. Very nice Tara!
Regards,
Carla

Really interesting work. When working with colour on a black & white photographic print, a very little colour goes a very long way. Most people go way too far, they apply colour far too liberally and don't know when to stop. When in doubt, err on the side of moderation. I don't know if your photo dyes can be diluted, but when the medium is permanent as it seems to be with your dyes, it's best to dilute and apply very thin washes in places where you definitely want colour to be. Take a look afterwards when it's dry, and if there isn't enough you can always apply another wash. (Now I'm writing as a watercolourist.) You should definitely have a garbage print with a similar surface beside your real work to test the colours out on first. Work in very small areas. It's amazing how little colour is needed to satisfy the human eye: it fastens upon colour and magnifies it beyond its actual presence. And the most important thing is to know when to stop -- working with colour, the slightest overworking ruins things totally. When in doubt, stop! If this has produced the good old "Well, duh!" effect in you, please pardon me. You plainly love making pictures and it shows in them. Rgds, Svend

Not absolutly.. for just people who hand color. It's just that the water based isn't as easy to work with as the oil based. It's just always an experiment anyway .. if one person likes it then I'm happy. Tara

Although it appears that the request for comments is to be restricted to those "who might handcolor photos"...

Which U No Who... does not...

I take the liberty to say... that the idea is indeed creative... which may sound balal.. but you have done it well!
