Curtis, I disagree with removing the door, because that would create an abstract object only. My eye goes to the door and then follows the diagonal line of the stairs.
Nice experiment Curtis, still, I would remove the door ; it is too bright and too distracting imho. I think the light on the wood would suffice to give the idea of exit/light/door.
