About Said to be the only nut where the seed is outside the fruit!
This is native to the Americas but now commercially cultivated
in India and Africa widely. The famed cashew-nut is the kernel of
this nut. The pungent oil got from the shell of the seed is
used to make plastic, varnishes and cosmetics.
The juice of the fruit if fermented and treated will
make a strong alcohol. A gum is collected from the trunk of
the tree also. The nut and fruits come in a variety of size,
shapes, hues and colours and indeed a great sight to see.
(Incidently the two pics posted by me under the names "ALONE"
and "NOT ALONE" are the flowers of this tree.)

so that's how they grow... an excellent image. sharp, crisp. to my taste, warmer coloration would be better, but this is justa matter of taste.

Great shot of a fantastic fruit! I knew about most of the peculiarities of this fruit but did not know that they came in clusters like this. The "fruit" is basically the base of the flower where as in almost all other plants it is the wall of the ovary that becomes the fleshy fruit.

Goa is probably India's largest producer of cashew, right? I know some cashew is grown in coastal Bengal. Anywhere else?

Is the cashew "fruit" ever eaten by itself? Or used to make juice? Probably the best use for it, of course, is the manufacture of feni! I'm with Sudhir on that one!

Great colours and wondeful clarity and sharpness Vinay. Very educational too, I have eaten them many times but never gave a thought to how or where they grew. Good non distracting background too.

I had no idea that this is how cashews grew. I think the colors are good.
