The kit lens was the 18-70mm ED that came with the camera when I go it. Yes I was close. The shots in the evergreen tree were shot with both cameras. However to get the shot I posted, I raised the camera way over my head and moved to within 3 feet ! And shot like crazy since I couldn't get eye to the viewfinder. so yes I was close. the shot with blue background was shot with me standing under the bird, once my cleated shoes caught and I almost landed in the lake !! I thought for sure He was gone, I looked up and he was still there watching with one eye .

Your technique worked to perfection Jim. The focus and DOF are spot on. It makes me feel that he's sitting on a window ledge looking in at me. AND HE'S WINKING TOO! Den

Great shot Jim. If I had a chance to get pictures like this I would be late to work too. Lee is a good person to spend the day with I had a blast and learned a lot in the process. Daryl
