About Subject background: A widescreen view of a beautiful day - seen through an IR filter. Nature seems to be LOTS more powerful than the tiny people in the scene....

PS concept: some layer work on levels and colors.

Special equipment: Hoya R72, tripod

As always: Honest feedback highly appreciated

great moody IR shot! we are so small compared to nature aren't we?? i think the soft details in trees and clouds give this one more of a dreamy effect. i like it!

the IR effect is fascinating a lot; for now I am experimenting with software and not optical tool

Hi Thilo,

Nice IR work. I've read the other comments and I don't mind the blur so much.

My gripe is that the people get a bit lost against the dark background. Would have been nice to have a whole outline.

Very nice sky and clouds. It really makes the picture.

Hi Omar,

unfortunately, there is no way to change the motion blur of the trees afterwards ;-)

But next time, I will do some more testing on the DOF. I swear.

thx for the honest feedback,

thilo

Hi Carsten,

Thanks for your honest and constructive feedback. Really appreciate that.

As for the DOF, I decided to go for F/22 to get the snow on the ground really sharp. My digital lens doesn't have any correction indication for IR, so normally I have to go for infite distance and f/22 to get the right picture. In this case, the long exposure leads to motion blur of the trees. My first idea was to make a double exposure and to let the normal image be the color part. I neglected the idea afterwards as the bold sky in the IR picture was much stronger than the blue one.

So yes, next time, I will do some serious testing with a lower DOF value. thanks for the feedback.

best wishes,
thilo

Hi Giorgio,

yes, I did some double exposure experiments. But this time, I decided not to do a sandwich picture, as the blue sky didn't come out so bold as the IR one. ;-)

but I will upload some doubles in the next days.

thanks for your comment,

thilo

Impressive shot Thilo !
Just out of curiosity, did you made a double exposure on that?
cheers.

Excellent IR landscape, the eye-catcher is the sky here IMO. Therefore indeed a bit distracting the motion blur of the clouds (intended, with f:22 ?). Long exposure is somewhat inevitable with DSLRs, filtering most IR away... But I would definitively like to see the clouds sharper (why not f:11, 1 sec), IR is a great tool for cloudscapes

Very nice composition and contrast. Definitely emphasises how small man is vs nature.
I see that the exposture is very slow, but the blurriness is a little distracting for me.

Very good IR photo Thilo - only slight effect on the trees but the clouds look outstanding :-)

Best wishes,
