Actually Jim, they are edible. If you type "rose hips" into Google you will get lots of recipes, including rose hip pie and rose hip jelly and rose hip syrup...just a thought for you resturant :-)

Nice image, Jim. I don't think, though, that it's a sign of spring. It appears to be a rose hip...the "fruit" of the rose. It's probably been there since fall. I like the way it appears to be encased in ice or water.
