About Not too long after the Cannes Film Festival where El Edwardo's latest film, "It Happened Around Midnight", was first shown and naturally swept up ALL top awards did it open World Wide to massive Rave Reviews and Sold Out showings EVERYWHERE. Phrases like "the New Brando" and "Deniro Who?" were included in top reviews of the film - The World was "El Loco for El Edwardo" !. Theaters and multi plex Cinema's had to "pull" their new Scorsese and Spielberg films to make more "screen space" for the latest from El Edwardo - the lines were THAT long - NO ONE was going to wait for the DVD. Above is an actual still from the film (the 70mm version). As the whole world knows by now El Edwardo plays inspector Steve Coxs - kind of an American James Bond - and the twist at the end of the film was just considered pure Cinema Genius. These were El Edwardo's peak months and he lived them to the fullest. Visiting World Leaders and Film and Music Stars that until this time had written off El's movie career as "Fluff" and "Makes Paris Hilton seem like Meryl Streep". These past critical and personal statements / reviews had hurt El Edwardo quite badly (in private only - I saw it - but he would put on a "laughing all the way to the bank" face in public.) Yet the pain WAS there and it wasn't rare to see El pop a few pain pills just to take the edge off. The one thing he enjoyed to no end was that now he finally had VINDICATION ! Unfortunately, a very unpleasant incident occured at this time that almost derailed the massive success El Edwardo was enjoying. One of EL's oldest friends from the early days - World Famous French Artist - Jean-Luc Pigalle - had started acting quite bizarre in recent months. This was really nothing new since the Avant -Garde AND Bourgeoisie had ALWAYS felt Jean-Luc was a very Eccentric Artist. This "label" probably began from the time of his first public showing of the now infamous painting "Woman Inside Herself" which caused such a massive outrage even in the artistically liberal cities of Paris and New York. Jean-Luc (who's picture I have included below) thought that El Edwardo's commercial success was an insult to true artists everywhere. In the last weeks of his life Jean-Luc would avoid El whenever he was in Paris (El wasn't the biggest fan of the city of Paris because he always felt they made a giant mistake by not tearing down their old buildings and replacing them with nice new mini - malls) and stopped his usual rendezvous with El when he would jet over to Amsterdam (see earlier shot) to visit the Coffee shops. It all culminated one ugly evening , just before Bastille Day, in a packed Cinema on Champs-Elysees when at the end of El's film Jean-Luc stood up screaming "Cinema is Dead! - Cinema is Dead !" in French and English. Then, he pulled out a small bottle of clear liquid, poured it on himself, and lit a match. Luckily he wasn't severely burned since theater goer's put out the fire. (he died weeks later when he took an overdose of sleeping pills mixed with 2 bottles of the popular drink "Malibu". A note was found next to his body that said "Art is dead - Fashion is dead - Death is the New Art". Jean-Luc was always know to be way ahead of his time. And once again his death received rave reviews in Art magazines calling it "A New Direction in Art"- Jean-Luc would have hated it. Next - El Edwardo and Trixie M'Gill - Do they stand a chance? Will Love win over the pressures of Fame? Stay tuned......

Mini-malls?!!! The outrage, the blasphemy! Poor Jean-Luc. I guess he really sacrificed his life to art, no? (No horrible pun intended.)

I was lucky enough to take one of the last known photo's of French Artist Jean-Luc Pigalle in his studio in Paris. Here he is standing next to a silk screen he had just finished of Mick Jagger. He was happy with his newest work but then said"What do I do now?' To Jean-Luc, the wine glass was ALWAYS half empty but it seems many artists had that view of life. We miss you Jean -Luc, Mark
