Joann, I respectfully and absolutely disagree.
I took a look at your portfolio, and frankly, I could have copied your comment and applied it to several of your own images. In fact, I started to do just that but it wouldn't have been enlightening there either. Your message appears to be "do as I say, not as I do."
No, it was a very poor choice for comment of the day. I'm sorry.

I do not believe the comment was necessarily chosen for its correctness. I believe it is a way to stimulate conversation and critique.
Once you get past the "rules" of photography
it is all a matter of opinion and preference anyway, isn't it?
All I have done is to express mine in a good will gesture and verbalize what I might have thought or done if this were my photo.
You have every right to disagree, however, I would like to know more of your opinion of this photo. As an amature photographer, I value the thoughts and suggestions of others. That is how I am learning, and I'm greatful to Usefilm for the opportunity to do so.

I like this too Mark ? a longing mood prevails - and the title very appropriate. A strange, human symmetry in these plants ? standing by the shore as indeed any other couple, joined in wordless, loving communion. A clever idea, and the result is this lullaby of picture - a very unusual romantic shot.

I like this very much, Mark, just the way it is - the whole point of limited dof is to put the emphasis on the subject, and let the background dissolve away.
Joann has some other thoughts, but her photo would have a different message - not necessarily better, just different.
Sometimes it's good to see if you can come up with different compositions using the same subject. The beauty of Usefilm is that you can learn from the different views of others, but the whole "right/wrong" thing is, well, wrong.
So - I like this very much. ;)
PS - You DO have the clone tool - in the PS family it's called the "rubber stamp".

Mark, I look at your picture and see the two lovers sitting on the shore quietly enjoying the view. From that perspetive, having them focused and the water unfocused is what conveys that image. Mary

Its not about the water, it's just a backdrop. If you were taking two peoples image from behind at sunset, would they not be silhouettes, same idea. Not sure if I have the clone tool on photoshop elements 3.0 will give it a whirl. Sorry it didn't convey the moment to you. will try your suggestions. Thank you

I like the idea behind the image, and your placement of the plants is very good, however,it is my humble opinion that there is something lacking in this image.
The depth of field is nice, but the plants appear too dark against the water, thereby losing definition. Also, it would be nice if the details of the water were clearer.
The lines in the foreground, right side seem to distract from the plants and might be better if cloned out.
I might have even cropped a bit more to make a square image of the plants and water with only about 1/4" of water on the right side of the image.
