stunning vertical array of cloud with a scenic view to the horizon.an approach i admire very much ,the cloud feature takes it from being just another landscape view. this approach offers great impact .simply excellent.

thanks James, I agree this one is definitely a better composition. The only thing that bothers me a little is the barrel distortion. Forgot to correct that.

James Hager   {K:6285} 4/18/2005
This shot is more interesting to me than the poppy shot I just critiqued because the plants in the foreground are distinct, and there is a nice diagonal pattern in the clouds.

You did great in showing the nature beauty, the wide angle shot gave a special look to the thin layer of the clouds, amazing how low the cloud is, superb work.Saeed

thanks Margaret, actually I wanted to go down on my knees to take some long angle shots. Fortunately I check the ground before I did becuase there was a rattle snake right in front of my feet.

David congrats on POTD with the fabulous landscape. It has that wonderful feeling of 'being there' As though while gazing up at the glorious fluffy clouds and great colours, you should be careful where to put your feet in case you stand on the lovely clumps of greenery.

Hi David:
Barrel distortion is a general problem with wide angle zoom lenses, and a straight to convex horizon is much more attractive than a concave horizon line. PanoTools offers a free action for lens distortion correction, that`s right. Not for everyone, MUCH fiddling with numbers ;-(.
But there is a PS plugin (free), download ... richardrosenman.com ...lenscorrect.zip (sorry for the incomplete URL, but my first and second attempt with complete URL was swallowed by UF. URL-links other than UF are filtered, I assume).
I was curious about your pano to come, played with the lowres pictures and PtGUI, got a nice square format. I think it was a wise decision the vertical format here.

Thanks Tiffany.

I really got inspired here at usefilm to do landscapes. I always loved them but never got anything done myself that I thought would be really good so I dropped the whole idea. When I joined Usefilm I saw how popular landscapes are and began thinking about it again. It was mostly Carsten's work that got me started. It is not too difficult after all when you have some of the best landscape photographers around here showing their work.

But its not only the good photos that help you learn. Also those that didn't turn out as spectacular as others. By comparing you can see why one photo is really excelent and why the other one isn't. Sometimes it is really only a small thing that makes a big difference.

Of course I like positive feedback but I really also appreciate people who point out flaws. That"s how you learn and get better.

very nice. struck by the connection between the shrubs and the wee cummulus clouds there. Having only just discovered the burn tool for my own use a bit 'distracted' by the foremost cloud's being burnt a bit brown.
Beautiful image.

Hi Carsten, You are right, the distortion bothered me, too. I should have corrected it but I didn't have any tools available quickly. But then isn't there something in Panotools to do that?

BTW, it is one of the photos of that panorama I sent you. After looking at it for a while I finally decided I like the vertical better compared to the stiched version.

Carsten Ranke   {K:14476} 4/1/2005
A superb vertical landscape, or skyscape. You did not overwork the ground tones, a very artistic contrast of strong colors and contrast in the sky and more muted toning in the green. A bit distracting for me is the barrel distortion, a pincushion would make the feel of vastness and space perfect for me

great landscape shot of the plains and sky above, i am wondering about it maybe being two different shots as per the blue halo on the mountains right above the grass in the far background??? other than that its a beautiful shot, wonderfully captured..
