I think you captured a good moment. As others have said, ideally it might have been at a different angle and exposure. But you don't always have control of the lighting.

Hi Stefan, If I were to answer your question from the perspective of my current series, I would undobutedly say NO, not too much contrast. But even without that reference, I'm, generally speaking, always in favour of a rather strong contrast. In this case, you seem just about to lose some of the details in the dark parts, but the highlights and midtones are rather well balanced. Perhaps dodging a few spots could revive those details, but I doubt if it will do any good to this shot.

As for the composition, the upward spiral (at leeast 3/4th revolution thereof, that is) grabs my attention, which works well. The somewhat crude cut of the bodies in front and the girl on the left give the impression of a hastily composed shot, with a lot of interference of other unwanted objects. Very understandable, and probably unavoidable, but nonetheless somewhat distracting.

The joyous atmosphere is very well captured, and the grain adds to the informality of the scene. I do like that alot, it captures the essence of the ballet class, or at least give that impression.

Cheers,

Hugo

Looking a little "dirty" in the face is the best I can describe it... Thanks again.

Very fun photo - perfect expressions caught here! I like grainy looks, but the grain/noise seems a bit excessive for a photo of this subject (little ballerinas) - that's just me and I'm no professional :) I enjoyed looking through your portfolio. We are neighbors, I guess you could say. I lived in Nashville and right outside of it for a good 9 years and still have family there. Again, this is a beautiful photo!
