The problem here was how to make the darkness as much a character in the story of imprisonment as the light, and MErt Y has solved it cleverly, by shoving the light to the left and letting the darkness dominate the right (which is the last side we read of a picture). Reversing the picture, as you see below, turns the gloomy mood to an exuberant one.
