Thank you for your comment, Mark, and thanks for pointing out what kind of bird it was. Using a street light to lean at and not breathing while the shutter is open helps a lot. I have done these a lot, so I guess I have a steady hand. Take a look at the 1.3s handheld exposure of the town hall in Hamburg http://www.usefilm.com/image/715177.html
I am saving for the Nikon 80-400 Vibration Reduction lens, though. Getting too old to manually focus the 500mm.

Pretty good for 500mm handheld, I'm sure the 1/800 helped but it's still hard at that length. I really like the combination of building / nature. Two elements at work with the bird above it all. BTW that's what's commonly referred to as a "turkey buzzard". -mm

Very nice job all around, Jurgen. The composition is very nice and the exposure right on as well.

Wonderful shot! Also nice to hear of waiting for the shot, rather than just adding the bird later on.

Thank you very much for you comment, Christine. Comments like yours are very rewarding. In fact, after reading your comment it suddenly is so much clearer to me why I liked the picture so much when I reviewed the shots of that day.
I just had to crop the shot a little to get a little piece of the neighboring building out the frame.
Thank you again, Jürgen

I like the contrast between the colors of the building and the sky, very bold, very stark. I also like the placement of the building in the frame, and the fact that it occupies less space in the photo than does the sky. Well seen, Jurgen.
