I just did a blue-sky/high contrast test shot and it's clear, so this is something I won't have to worry about until I buy a 2nd lens. ;)

I've studied this sensor dust issue, and to minimize its possiblity, the cap was off the body and the lens attached in about 3 seconds. I only own one (very capable 27-135mm zoom) lens, so I have no need to remove it...unless it truly is dust. I'll check it out today, since we have a pretty, cloudless day, Mark. THANKS!

Before I alarm you too much it could also be dust on the lens or filter but on the CCD it will be in the same spot on every shot. It's less noticable on shots with more DOF and more noticible on shots focused on infinity. -mm

Hi Paul, Congratulations on the win and the puchase of the Canon. It's a really fine camera. I just got a used Nikon D100 and I love it. This is a nice shot with the combination of architectural elements. That being said, I can't help but notice some specks in the lighter areas of the sky. I had dust on my sensor that had to be cleaned. The easiest way to tell is to shoot a clear sky and open in an image editor. Raise the contrast and the brightness and if it looks like the picture below you need to clean the CCD.
