About
Camelidae - an ancient camel, from the badlands of Nebraska. My fossil collection. The eye orbit is in the upper left and you can see the teeth and jaw.
Camels became extinct in North America as recently as 10,000-12,000 years ago.
Michael, I really love your portfolio! I just realized today that I've never commented on your work...what an omission on my part! I also shoot a lot of macro, so I'm particularly interested in the macro subjects you post here.
I have a background as a geologist, so this image really jumped out at me. While I like the image, I struggle with the way blur is used. The blur works magically for you on many of your images...particularly the study of forks. (By the way...those are fabulous!!) In this instance... maybe it is my secret inner nerd talking...I yearn for the entire fossil to be in focus, more like an accurate specimen photograph. One of the times blur really works well is when it leaves a hint of what is really there. When that 'really there' part of the object is an undifferentiated rock, the meaningful impact of blur is not as strong.
Anyway, even if you don't see it the same way...I wonder if this comment makes sense.
I'm now off to go look at the rest of your portfolio!
