Hello Dominic,

I don't know why the others complain about the focus here, to me it seems as if the face is in focus, it just doesn't have as much highlights as the hair an therefore looks less sharp. I like the composition and the expression here. My suggestion for future portraits would be to try a wider aperture, like 2.8 or 4 to get less depth of field. Selective focus on the face/eyes and a blurred background is always nice for portraits.
Btw, thanks for your comment on my underground image, it was the most encouraging comment I got in ages! And thanks for the rating although I have my images 'comment only' because I don't understand the rating system ;-)

Greetings,

Paul

I am no portrait expert, but I like the diagonal composition and her pose, her expression. Maybe it`s a focus issue, or you should simply sharpen again after resize. These are technical points - most important is your feeling for composition, and that is very good

Hi Dominic! I'm also the beginner in portrait, but if you never mind i'll try to explain what i'm seeing. The model is beautiful, the composition is great, i 'm agree with Omar, that it need to be focus on the face, and may be try to divide b/k from model. We will be learning more and more. I'm very appreciated for all comments to me.
Cheers, Larissa

Dom,
Thanks for your comment.
I'm not an expert on portraits, but I thought I would make a couple uf suggestions, if I may. I like this shot, especially the beautiful model and her dreamy position and its a great first attempt. It would be improved if her face was fully focused, as this is the most important element of a portrait. Also a pure black background is, for me, quite strong and also give a feeling of 'outer space' (ie no contextual reference for the viewer). The background can be a great part of the portrait if it provides suggestive objects or landscape that fits with the theme or personality of the model.

I don't want to sound negative, because its a great first attempt, and anyway I'm not an expert myself, but just wanted to try to offer some constructive advice..

best regards,
Omar
