Yep - called Bird of Paradise here in the Phoenix, AZ area - where they grow their best in the shade. Nice capture, and the greens set of the vivid colors of the flower very nicely.

Julie Lovely capture of this Bird of Paradise plant, and I see everyone has chipped in with it's 'proper name' too which I wouldn't have been able to spell. Brilliant colours and they show up so well against the varied green background Margaret

Hi Julie very nice, colorful shot. I like very much this flower. His botanic name is "Strelitzia reginae", indigenous to South Africa, with a large diffusion in the mediterranean area. And yes, in Britain it's also known as 'bird of paradise' In the flower language it means something like "deep anxiety". cheers

Julie, It is a Stralitzia flower. Indiginous to South Africa as far as I know. Easy grown. It is also called the "Crane Flower". Very nice capture against the green leaves. Lovely shot.
