About From Constantinople (Istanbul) to many corners of this Global Village of ours...

The Christian Orthodox will celebrate EASTER.

According to the Gregorian calender it will this year be May 1st.

The patriarchate in Turkey dates from the 1,100-year-old Orthodox Greek Byzantine Empire, which collapsed when the Ottoman Turks conquered Constantinople, today's Istanbul, in 1453.

Patriarch Bartholomew presides over 14 autonomous Orthodox churches, including those of Greece, Russia, Serbia, Albania, Bulgaria, and Romania.

The celebration will commence with breaking of bread and eggs... Because of the fast before Easter, all the traditional meat and cheese dishes come out for the Easter meal, as they are greatly missed! Lamb is the center attraction, with all of the side dishes done in the traditional fashion.

Kali Anastasi ( Good Resurrection of Christ or in pagan language: HappyEaster)

After midnight, when lights in Church go off and the holy light (candle from alter) is passed through the congregation to mark the Resurrection of Christ, you say : CHRISTOS ANESTI (Christ has risen) the answer is : ALITHOS ANESTI (indeed He has risen). This ritual goes back to the beginning of Christianity (before mobiles) when people went around announcing and confirming the miracle of the Resurrection.
The breaking of the red eggs symbolizes the end of the fast during the 40 days (when Christ carried the cross) leading up to the Crucification on Good Friday and the Resurrection 3 days later, marked at midnight Saturday-Sunday.
Eggs mean beginning of a new life, eternal because no beginning or end in its oval shape. Red is a symbol of life.
This is the most meaningful and beautiful feast of Christianity.
