About Planning on going for another photographing trip! Thank you to everyone who wrote a supportive comment on the black and white ~emotional contrast II~

After becoming a donor im having even a harder time picking which image to post!!!!
i don?t want to post all 3 at the same time!

Photoshop, hmm lets see, cloning out the edges of the fisheye-as many of you suggested before- turned into black and white, toning, unsharpen mask, noise removal, levels, light and frame ;)

Maybe because it?s a 15 mm? would it make a difference?
not too extreme and you can always photograph in the biggest best format then crop the fisheye edges out?!

frankly speaking I had never considered the fish eye for the street shots .... since I visited your portfolio, I'm very happy of the results you have got.

wow, I do love the street shots taken with wide angle. not usual for me to see street shots taken with the fish eye, but the effect is really great, especially in this kind of photo journalistic pictures.

what do you mean by ?One advantage of not putting them up too fast is that by the time I put a new photo up my mood changes and I go in a different direction..?
like from people to flora?

P.S.

Hi dear Arwa!
developing is going well, I developed my second roll (this time 400 ISO) and came out even better then the first: I learned how important is to properly agitate the fixage too, not only the developer! ;-)
all the best my dear friend
Maurizio

This does have attitude, as said by Dina. It isn't easy to get three people up close and all in focus -- I've botched enough to know...lol. Well done. Nice in sepia also. Antonia

This image is so touching Arwa and says a lot.
You know I like this type of photography, we could get from the eyes of such poor people lots of expressions by our cameras.
If you look into their eyes, each of them gives you a different story and feel misery in them.
Best regards,
Khaled.

excellent image... love the expressions on their faces.. nicely captured... well, I am a donor and I would be lucky to upload 3 photos in a month LOL. One advantage of not putting them up too fast is that by the time I put a new photo up my mood changes and I go in a different direction..

This is truly brilliant Arwa, the composition is wonderful but the childrens expressions are so strong they really make this a powerful capture.

And finally, the toning is exceptional - light in the centre to attract our attention but not too dark at the edges so you can still see the surroundings.

Excellent photograph :-)

Best wishes,
Steve

These kids have attitude!! I love it. Your use of black and white here is superb. I also like the fisheye--good call cropping the edges.

You really have a gift for capturing children on their terms. Thanks for sharing. :)

hi arwa,

very cool street scene. the fisheye packs the three children very well together. great clarity. I'm not so sure about the part on the right as the reduced light seems to be a bit artificial. at least for a naturalistic street shot with children ;-)

anyway, very good work with the fisheye!

best wishes,

thilo

Steve Hennerley   {K:5776} 5/1/2005
Hi Arwa,

Great use of the fisheye -the distorted perspectives really work well here.

I like to way that my attention is torn between the subject in the foreground and the boy in the background.

It is like there is a little conflict going on - I feel as though my attention should be on the subject in the fg - but time and time again, the highlighting on the wall in the background leads my eye to whats going on there.

With the subject matter - I feel like I am being warned off from upsetting the small child in the bg - by the two older brothers... the middle one making a stand (in the fg) and the older one standing by over his siblings.

If you read some of my other posts - you may realise that i realy like photos that make me think - that tell a story without needing any commentry. (even if I can't manage them myself! :) )

This - of course - is one of them - great capture!

back to the photo - I think the harsh, unflattering hard side lighting on the fg subject - coupled with the distortion of the fisheye - really gives this some 'attitude'

Steve

Arwa. this series looks so attractive.your camera catch most simply & rare moments of children. using the natural light with these perspective of old places is helpful to enhance the documentary feeling of the captures. now in this shot, the presented foreground & background ,both is helpful and exellnet to be eye catch. nice looking. full of innocence. keep up good works.

Great shot! the clustering of the kids near the center works well with the fisheye! Great expressions. I remember the feeling well as a kid of being just bored on those long afternoons when all the adults were taking their naps!
