Nice set up Gary, personally I prefer a long zoom which gives me more compositional options. My 70-300 is my old film lens which on D70 is about 450 which is tooooooo short.I have a TAMRON 500 MM MIRROR which works on D70 but not for flying birds.!!!!!!!! Have fun Gary.

Thanks Robert, not sure I know how to do that. I will get the manual out. I now use mainly a nikon 300mm F4(often with a 1.4 telecoverter). The 50-500mm Sigma never gives me that sharp an image (not sure if it is me, my technique or just the lens.

Nice shot with good composition. Regarding your contrast level, have you tried boosting it up in camera?

Gary: Cool shot! We have a local nest and I have to get to it this summer. The pair have been very successful at raising young the last few years.

Hi Angelo, Hand with the support of a fence post, 1/800 6.3 ISO 800. Yes the colour / contrast needs work, still can't get them as sharp as I would like. Used spot metering to try and help with the washout as the light was from behind ( light cloud overcast day). I think the lens has potential as I can get sharp shots with well lit subjects . Will continue you to play with manual settings. Cheers and thanks for your comments, Gary

Nice shot, Gary. Hand-held? What were your shutter etc?
It looks a bit flat in terms of colour/contrast.
