Pankaj,
This is too extensive a subject to cover in a post. But basically, you want to get your scans a bit darker, with more detail in the highlight areas.
Then you can select particular areas and use them with adjustment layers, or simply create new layers and use different blending modes for effects.

Angelo, these are negative scans, how do u work with layers to bring about details? Do u need to cut various areas into different layers and then selectively apply curves/levels?

Very nice patterns, Pankaj.
But you have to do something to control those highlights. Is this a scan of a print? If so, it needs to be printed better, withs some burning in.
If a negative scan, you need to work with some layers to bring back some detail.

Pankaj,
Interesting repetitive paterns at work here.
I was there too, a loooong time ago. Thank you for the reminders.
Right now there is an Austrian couple traveling in India and follow their travel log. They have some nice images of Agra. Please take a look here - travelblog.org/Asia/India/Uttar-Pradesh/Agra/blog-8854.html
regards, ken.

Beautiful architectural rhythm; the high contrast works to distill it to its graphic qualities.
