as you can see from the glint in your eyes (or on the watch) this was taken out of focus.
the framing is great, though.
something to consider: don't use the flash, as it is so close to the lens that facial features lose dimension. Instead, try setting a table lamp nearby.

As we have already met on these pages, I would like to suggest that we switch to first names. I, as you already know, am Rafi and unless you find it too early I would like to refer to you as Julie. This time I could see your entire portfolio, which first of all showed me parts of England I was unable to see when I was there in 1969-70 and on later visits. There is a great veriaty in the subjects to take photos of and all of them show an excellent sense for the use of light, the essence of photography and for composition. I vascilated between commenting on your village and on this photo and decided on this one, because it showed me (excuse the familiarity) your beauty. In the far chance that you have an interest in psychoanalysis, I would like to tell you that I have written a book on the subject which, despite its name: "Dialogues with Schizophrenia - the Art of Psychotherpy" was writen with the interested non mental-health professional also in mind. You may see it on www.drspringmann.com on which site the important issues to pay attention to are Dr. Joyce Mc Dougall's preface (she is a leading figure in the psychoanalytic community) and the story of Adam, the first schizophrenic patient described in the book. In case you would like to read it, please send an e mail with usefilm, your book in the subject line to rafael1930@bezeqint.net and I will gladly send you the book (1.02 MB) at no cost to you. Thank you for your very kind words about my "From the field 4." Best regards, Rafi

How on earth did I miss this? This is a superb self portrait with a lovely pose, excellent eye contact with the camera. beautiful soft pastel shades and perfect soft focus. So many portraits with a soft feel to them are overdone look a bit flat but you've nailed this one Julie. And I see you're a grandmother! So very hard to believe - you look much too young! Beautiful shot of a beautiful woman...

This also is a lovely shot. Skin tones are a bit red and the frame is too strong for your delicate face and softened tones. Don't worry about the other comments that are hard to read because they are definately tools to help you improve. Your entire profile is very impressive and you capture so many lovely scenes..including these posts of yourself. Just keep going! :)

Model is stunning, technical qualities are not quite to beautiful. You are enjoyable to look at that's for sure. I think you should model for yourself some more and see if you can get that camera to bring the shot a bit sharper. You are lovely that's for certain! Mark

Hi Julie...
Have to agree with Rob on all points. The biggest distraction for me is your eyes -= a portrait really needs to have sharp well defined eyes - there is a lot of blurring on all the highlights.
unlike Rob, I really think the softness would work well though if there was greater clarity in your eyes. Only other comment would be to watch out for image programs that insert borders - as this intrudes into your image.
Great composition though - Would love to see another attempt at this if you do one!
Say Hi to the UK for me :)
Steve

The pose, expression and composition are not bad at all. The capture is too soft, the skin tones are too red. The flash light is too harsh from too close by. Probably by the built in flash. Lots of room for improvement. Try ambient light on a clear day in a room with a large aneough window to let the light come in. Best regards, Rob.
