About In the Netherlands there are more and more re-enactment groups focussed on the American Airborne troops of World War 2.
Triple A has a special interest in the 506th PIR 101st Airborne Division 2nd Battalion in particular. It was formed of two re-enactorgroups: "Dutch Currahees" (506th PIR Easy Company) and "Rendez vous with Destiny" (506th PIR Fox Company). The name Dutch Currahees referred to Currahee Mountain, the last mountain in the Blue Ridge chain of mountains. The name Currahee (war-cry of the 506th) given by the Cherokee is translated "Stands alone"; just as alone as the paratrooper who just landed in the midst of enemy territory.

Re-enactment of the Second World War period is not popular in the Netherlands unlike the surrounding countries. Because it is associated with a morbid interest in violence or with ultra right wing sympathies, certainly when re-enactment involves the "former enemy".
Nowadays the by far largest association of vintage military vehicle enthusiasts in the Netherlands has dropped its strict refusal of military uniforms and the Dutch laws make it possible now for re-enactors to possess and to carry (demilitarised) fire-arms under certain conditions.

Superb collage. This is extremely well thought out and executed. It could easily be the cover art for a book about the period.

You just blew me away, Lida. This is a phenomenal montage. It is really dramatic. Now your about shows that you are very knowledgeable about this area, which is another surprise. It almost sounds like you are a history professor! Antonia

A long time has passed sine we met on these pages and once more you present a masterpiece, dear Lida. I have seen the movies you mention in your "about" probably under different names and yesterday (March 22nd) we saw the "Downfall", in which Hitler and the Third Reich are presented as they decompose. As an Israeli, I can only empathize with what you say in that "about", perhaps indirectly, about former collaborators and contemporary right extremists. Not that we lack extremists here, both on our side and that of the Palestinians, so I may have no right to critisize, but I'm against extremity on all sides and that might give the right after all.
As I wrote above, I think your photo to be another dreamlike masterpiece and many a film producer might learn from it how to present a memorial.
Last but not lesat, thank you for your kind words about my "In Monet's garden 4." I wish you would visit my portfolio more often, as it gives me an opprtunity to see your materpieces.
Best regards,
Rafi
P.S.
This will appear twice beneath your photo, but I wanted to add that peace in our region seems to be a little bit closer than it was a year ago, but as the movie was named, if I remember correctly, it is still "One bridge too far"

Love this! We went to Neijmagen when we were there in 2000. My husband's Grandfather was involved in Operation Market Garden (he was a paratrooper) and his Company was a focus in the movie "The Longest Day". He'd love this shot I'm sure. Very well done in your collage. I love how you made this work so well together.

Lida , what is the feelings of guns in the neatherlands. I think here in the US it is evenly divided with more than 50% of americans owning firearms. Good pic by the way.
