This was found under a low cedar tree, trying to stay our of the sun. Prickly Pear Cactus The Texas state plant is the prickly pear cactus. Texas is the only state with a state plant. The prickly pear cactus became Texas state plant in 1995. Like other cactuses, prickly pears produce flowers. They are red and yellow or purple.
