About This is a Joshua Tree (name coined by the Mormans)that was taken in the afternoon light of 5-22-05. Tree is one of thousands scattered throughout the Joshua National Forest which is located off of Hwy 40 on the road that goes between Kingman and Wickenburg, Arizona. These trees (a member of the Agave family--Yucca bevifolia) develop all sorts of interesting shapes and no two are alike. Wanted to share some of the landscape and beauty of Arizona and the high desert.

Margaret - Thanks for your comment. This particular tree appears to have reached its full growth size which is 15-30 feet. I would guess this one was about 20'. Jan

Is this a 'samll tree' or is the Joshua Tree a type of small tree. They must be great if they are so varied is shape etc. Nice composition

It truly is ashame that the landscaping of this place is often times littered with trash as you stated. A wonderful image of the Joshua Tree - look forward to more photos in July.

Thanks Mary - next time we go up (probably July) I will try and get a group shot so that you can really see the variety of weird shapes nature has designed for this tree. Jan

These look like sort of weird trees. Nice composition and lighting.

Thanks Christine - hated to crop some of the other vegitation away and leave this guy centered - but there were things in the scene that were not native to the desert - trash-type items, so.... Isn't it a shame that people don't have any more respect than to toss garbage? Jan

I love Joshua Tree-- such great shapes and light! You've captured one of the spectacular weird trees well here, Janice.
