In order to 'keep us safer', New York's Metropolitan Transit Authority is proposing a total ban on subway photography (except for credentialed press). Given that there's cameras now in cell phones, PDA's, iPods and others, and they would have to be banned too. Otherwise, this will just be hurting tourists and legitimate photographers:

While I was in New York a police officer told me that if I took pictures in the subway system then they would take away my camera and film...
