Canon PowerShot S1 IS Photographed June 4, 2005 12:25 PM This is one of two types of this plant my wife grows inside. These are backlit by the sun coming through the glass back door. Lowered the ISO to 200 to reduce the noise and lowered the exposure bias to reduce the sun glare. Gloxinia (Sinningia speciosa) Genus: Sinningia (sigh-NIN-jee-uh) Species: speciosa (spee-see-OH-suh) The species from which Florists Gloxinias were derived came from Brazil in 1785. The name Gloxinia speciosa was originally assigned in 1817 by Conrad Loddiges, an English Nurseryman, in honor of P.B. Gloxin of Strasburg, Germany. In 1825, the species was renamed, placing it in the correct genus, Sinningia. The modern Gloxinia is a hybrid from two Brazilian tropical species; Sinningia speciosa and Sinningia maxima. It arose as a chance seedling raised by a Scottish gardener, John Fyfiana, in the nineteenth century. Thanks Ellen... Where this flower sits. It is back lit and the light shows through everything...
Here's the same plant blooming back about April 2004. Sherry (My Wife) almost lost it. She cut it back almost to a nub and you see how it came back... You can see there are buds too. More to come...
OMG this is heavenly. The focus is tack sharp and the color saturation is brilliant, oh those greens, ah the reds. Yep this is going to the top of the oh ah file...by way of my desktop. 10++++
