About With my usual dof, I thought this looked like the sun setting in the background of this unusual looking fly.

Hi Dottie, thanks for all your wonderful comments. I will try to tell you about the extension tubes the best I can. Not being a professional I am sure I will get some of the technical details wrong. Extension tubes ( and there are usually two sizes, a small and a large) are tubes that have no glass in them and are put on the camera before your main lens. What they do is magnify the subject you are photographing. The magnification amount all depends on what lens you are using. For example, my 100 mm. macro lens will do a 1 to 1 size. by adding the extension tube I can get a 1 to 1.6 or so ratio or make the subject seem 1 and 1/2 times it's normal size. This is a real rough explanation but I hope it helps. If I was at home, I could probably get some info for you out of one of my books and if you so desire just let me know. Extension tubes run anywhere from $90.00 to $135.00 depending on the size and they match up with your cameras so exposure, focusing is all still TTL (through the lens.

Hope I helped:)

Hey James that is really great, it is almost abstract - but the details of the fly shine through [the sun]. Excellent
