Hi Alastair, Here is a discarded shot of the same scene. See what the lights did. :-)

Gosh, I can see what you mean about this being a difficult one! There are so many background elements that distract from that amazing scupture. I also prefer the B&W one to the colour, even though those colours are so beautiful and warm. The B&W version somehow has more drama and impact which suits the subject better. Very good shot under incredibly difficult conditions!

Hi Roger, This scene is a photographic nightmare with the many bright lights scattered throughtout. I would like to redo this and will use your good advice about background separation and composition. I'm getting used to the statue now but first time I saw it I was really impressed. The artist made her "feet" from various sea shells and the rest from "sea weed".

I think I prefer the B&W, although those nice warm biscuity colours are are very attractive. It's hard to see how you could have isolated this better from the rather busy background... Maybe moving the viewpoint around to the right would bring the tail down into the doorway? That would show the ironwork detail up better. With any luck there'd also be a matching roof area on the left that would balance the area on the right, and perhaps both point down towards the statue? That would make for a stronger composition... Easy for someone who wasnt't there to say! It's nice that statues hold still for you, right?
